Vision of BoARD

The vision of the Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Development is to make food insecurity past history and to promote changes from traditional agriculture system to modern agriculture system ( promoting natural resource conservation based, agro-ecological based and sustainable production system) and to produce market oriented, standardized and internationally competent agricultural products. In short, the general vision of the bureau is to ensure that the Amhara region producing surplus and for the region to become the bread basket for Africa.

Some facts about the region

• High livestock potential (33%) of the country
• High crop potential (25-30%) of the country
• High water resource potential (a starting point of three main watersheds)
• 90% of the population livelihood is agriculture and the share of this sector to the GDP is 60%
• Nevertheless, 42 % of the population is under chronic food insecurity
